EXCELLENCE is the Noble Quality that best equates to GREATNESS —it means to do or create the very best outcome or product or service.

Excellence is difficult to achieve because it requires discipline, skill, focus, patience and time.

Excellence is a quality that people really appreciate, because it’s so hard to find.

Excellence is the quality of excelling, of being truly the best at something or creating something of true quality.

It applies to all the 7 Elements of the Wellness Wheel – Family, Fun, Finance, Faith, Leadership, Physical and Emotional Health.

It is pertinent to refer to Steve Jobs when talking about Excellence. He was obsessed with the best – planning the best, sourcing the best ideas, finding the best resources, obtaining the best engineers, producing the best products.

He is known for throwing back and rejecting what appeared to be a perfectly prototype – because it was slightly difficult for the customer to use. Must have been a nightmare for those in his teams.

He insisted that even the inside parts of the Apple products were of the best quality and the best design. Out of sight for him – was not an excuse to neglect Excellence.

Excellence was a quality ingrained into him by his father at a young age. He often referred to the fence he built with his father at their home.

Not only were the parts of the fence that were easily seen by visitors or passersby made to the highest standard of Excellence – but so were the parts that were at the back or out of sight.

So no matter what part of the fence a person looked at – the fence was of the same high quality of Excellence.

This project and others would continue to define his life and his legacy.

There is also an example of an artist who made a sculpture which was to be lifted and set in place 8 meters off the ground. He found a small scratch on the nose of the sculpture.

He was questioned as to why he was doing the sculpture again – as no one would notice the scratch – especially so high up.

His reply was: “They won’t know – but I will”

EXCELLENCE leads to GREATNESS because:

EXCELLENCE HAS A PRESENCE

EXCELLENCE HAS A FEEL

EXCELLENCE HAS A SOUL

EXCELLENCE HAS AN ESSENCE

Jim Rohn summed Excellence this way:

“Never do less than your best.

Always do the best you can.

Have it said that you did the best you could with what you had.

That you used the full expression of your mind, your heart, your soul, your touch and your reach

Don’t have your life acceptable – HAVE IT REMARKABLE.

Society will let you get away with far less…but go for more.

Leave behind your own footprints.

Do what you do so well that others will measure your stride to see if they can match you.

Reach for a higher purpose. Go beyond something you thought you could do.

Live with intensity. You might as well turn it up a notch or two today.

Why not? Invest more of who you are in all you do?

Be a little stronger. Be a little wiser. Step up your vitality, intensity and contribution.

Put everything you have got into all that you do. Develop even more Vigour, more Passion, more Heart and more Soul”

“Let others lead small lives, but not you!

Let others cry over small hurts, but not you!

Let others argue over non-essentials, but not you!

Deal in things that matter – the larger the challenges, the larger the opportunities.

Talk about things that matter to those who care.

One of the greatest values in life is to help some else.

One of our greatest thrills in life is to invest Life into Life!”
